Karachi’s Green Line BRT Gets Rs. 42.7 Billion Boost for Expansion & Operations
The Federal Government has allocated Rs. 42.7 billion for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Karachi under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2025-26. This funding is divided into two key components: Rs. 29.19 billion for continued development and Rs. 13.50 billion for operational expenses, including fleet management, maintenance, and infrastructure support.
Originally approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in 2017, the Green Line BRT is a crucial part of Karachi’s mass transit strategy. Once fully integrated with other transport lines, it is expected to reduce travel times, ease congestion, and lower carbon emissions, providing a reliable and affordable public transport solution for the city’s growing population.
